Are we really in the last days as prophesied in the Bible? Are the things happening around the world today anything to do with biblical prophesy? Is there any compelling evidence? What proof is there if any? Even if it is the last days why should I care? These are all questions that many Christians have been asking themselves in recent times.
We can surely not answer everything in great detail in this article, but rather it is a high level summary. It lays down a platform or foundation that acts as a starting point to further build on with more detail in other articles or investigation of your own.
What does "last days" mean?
What period does the term "last days" refer to in the bible?
Biblical references to the term "last days"
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. ~ 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." ~ 2 Peter 3:3-4
'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' ~ Acts 2:17-21
There are a number of other terms in the bible that are synonymous with the term "last days", too many to mention here. But they all refer to one of two time periods...
- The last generation (the final 70 years or so leading up to Christs return) or
- The last 2000 years (since Pentecost ~ 30AD, as per Acts 2:16-17)
The latter confirms we are from biblical terms that we are in the "last days" and have been for almost 2000 years. But nowadays we are largely referring to the former, being the last generation and close to Christs return. So this is the question "Are we in the last generation?".
When a single sign or event occurs it is easy to dismiss unless it is validated or confirmed from further investigation. When multiple signs or events start occurring then it is prudent to sit up and take a closer look. When those events start aligning and converging on the calendar then you certainly want to take notice. And when Watchmen and Christians across the globe start seeing the same signs and events occurring, waking up and more fervently seeking the Lord, then it is time to pay attention to what is going on and keep watch.
We believe we are in this time now.
Below are listed a portion of the prophecies and events that are related in some way to the last days as described in the bible. There are a number more that have occurred recently and others that are in progress now, and still more that are on the verge of occurring. And they are all starting to converge. See the reliability rating to understand the RELIABILITY column.
NOTE: Whilst this is a summary, we will pick up some of these events in other articles in more detail (including showing the amazingly mathematical and scientific Word of God).

What Does It Mean?
So what does it mean if all these last days prophetic events are occurring around us now. Should we pay attention?
Lets see what the bible says. In Mark 13, when Jesus is talking about the "last days" he repeatedly says...
- "Watch out that no one deceives you"
- "You must be on guard"
- "When you see..."
- "So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time"
- "Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door."
- "Be on guard! Be alert!"
- "Therefore keep watch..."
- "What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch'"
But why should we watch? Why was Jesus warning us to be alert? What difference does it make? Is it really that important? What advantage is there is being aware?
There are several reasons...
- So that no one deceives you (Mark 13:5, Matthew 24:11)
- So that your love won't grow cold (Matthew 24:12-13)
- So that you will be awake (Mark 13:36)
- Jesus told us to. (Mark 13, Matthew 24)
In these last days the Lord is calling his Bride to prepare herself for his return. We do not know the exact day or hour when he will return, but he said "when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door" and "If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping".
Immediately after Jesus had spoken about the last days in Matthew 24, he tells the disciples a parable. A parable that applies to the last days and the importance of being alert and ready. The Lord has drawn me over and over to this parable. Take the time to read it here now...
THE PARABLE OF THE TEN VIRGINS (Matthew 25)
At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'
Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.'
'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'
But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
Later the others also came. 'Lord, Lord,' they said, 'open the door for us!'
But he replied, 'Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.'
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Prophetically speaking, we believe we are at few minutes till midnight ("right at the door"). The virgins referring to the Bride of Christ were not all ready. And the parable implies getting ready takes time, and not something you can just do when the bridegroom arrives. For those virgins that were not ready the bridegroom (i.e. Jesus) says "I do not know you". This would seem strange for "Christians" (represented as virgins in the parable) to be told that Jesus didn't know them. But knowing someone and knowing about someone are 2 very different things. I could ask "Do you know the President?", and you could say "Yes I do". But really you do not "know him" personally, but rather you "know about him".
The oil here refers to the Holy Spirit. And the Lord wants you to "know him" by spending time with him, listening to his still quiet voice, and being filled with the Holy Spirit. So that you do not let anyone deceive you and lead you astray. So that your love won't grow cold. So that you will be awake and alert when he comes.
Yes we strongly believe that we are indeed in the last days, whether from the first Pentecost (~30 AD) or from when Israel became a nation again (1948). The signs that the Bible told us to look for are stacking up and converging on the calendar. Watchmen the world over are blowing their trumpets.
The noise of this world can easily put us to sleep, drowning out our ability to see and hear.
But the Lord is calling his bride.
